4620VA units can be upgraded to have FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) firmware if they don't have it. This encrypts the bluetooth signal between the scanner and base so that it can securely pass data wirelessly. Many VA hospitals are moving to this standard or require it, but many unencrypted units are still in service vulnerable to having their data hijacked during transmission.
